Garlic Herb Mashed Potatoes

Mashed Potatoes, recipe can be adjusted. (Ideas: garlic, cheese, loaded, herb) Same method for sweet potatoes, white potatoes, red potatoes, or gold.

  • Potatoes (1-1 1/2 per person)
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Butter (add to taste)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Herbs to taste


Method one: Peel potatoes (approximately 1- 1 1/2 per person). Cut into quarters. Place in appropriate size pot to fill about 3/4 of the way. Add water about half way covering potatoes. Cover and open whistle. Cook on medium heat until valve whistles. When valve whistles, turn valve off and heat down to low. Continue cooking on low until potatoes are soft. Drain potatoes in a colander. Return to pot. Mix with hand mixer or in a stand mixer with salt, pepper, milk, butter. (Can substitute cream and seasoned butter to your liking).

Method two: Place a couple inches of water in 3 quart saucepan. Place colander on top. Place quartered potatoes inside with peels on. Cook as above on medium heat using whistle. Once potatoes are soft, empty water out of 3 quart. Put colander back on top. Mash potatoes through colander holes using a flat head potato masher. Throw peels away. Add butter, milk, salt and pepper to taste.
